Higher Culloden Farm is the perfect place to come and unwind for your family holiday or short break. There are five glamping pods available to stay in, each with their own private bathroom a short walk away, and with full use of the shared kitchens. Camping in Cornwall doesn’t get much better than this.
Each of our glamping pods sleep a family of four comfortably. They all have a double bed and two single beds, plus there is a travel cot which is available to hire. During the day, the double bed converts neatly into a family dining table and seating. The two single beds also become long benches for guests to relax on. With a large decking area in front of the pod as well, consider it an upgrade from the traditional camping in Cornwall.
We love our guests helping in with farming duties. This includes feeding our animals each morning on the daily rounds. There are sheep/lambs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits that all need feeding and looking after. Plus, each afternoon we go and collect the chicken and duck eggs which taste wonderful when cooked fresh.
Occasionally we hold small craft events which we invite guests to come along to if they wish. We also regularly pick the fruit and vegetables growing in the poly-tunnels and vegetable garden. Volunteers to help picking are always welcome.
Looking to just relax? Why not take a picnic down to our private stream which is hidden away in a secluded spot away from it all. See if the children can spot the tadpoles or small Trout fry swimming in the stream. If you’re feeling brave, carefully walk through the shallow stream and visit ‘Cow Island’ for a more rugged but equally beautiful picnic spot (and of course a rope swing for the children).
The children’s play area is right next to the pod field so you can easily keep an eye on them playing. There is a tower to climb up, slides, some swings and a large sand pit to play in. Did you know that the sand comes from the estuary at Padstow/Rock? There really is part of the beach right here at the farm. Soon to be added to the play area is a wonderful children’s tipi/wigwam to play in and a great walking beam. Finally, we mustn’t forget the mud kitchen which is situated up by the poly-tunnels.
Finish the day off with a BBQ outside your glamping pod, or simply play games in the field. Once you’ve watched the sunset across the fields, keep an eye out for the wonderful display of stars and planets that are clear to see as you’ll be sat in a designated dark skies area. A stunning end to the day.
Instead of camping in Cornwall, go glamping in Cornwall for the extra comfort. Come and stay at Higher Culloden Farm for the family holiday destination you’ll want to visit again and again.
Did you know that Camelford is one of the few towns in Cornwall that is recognised for welcoming walkers? With Bodmin Moor and the rugged North Cornwall coastline on our doorstep, you couldn’t be in a better location.
Whilst access to Roughtor and Bodmin Moor is just a mile away by car, you can follow the public footpath from the edge of the farm right through to the Moors.
Explore the miles and miles of the beautiful Bodmin Moor. If you’re looking to cover plenty of ground then this is the perfect place to be. There are several designated walking routes from Camelford right up and through the Moors. Information on these routes can be provided to guests.
If you prefer following the coastline then a short drive will see you arrive at variety of stunning beaches. It’s here you can then explore and see North Cornwall in all its beauty. Tintagel, Boscastle, Rock, Daymer Bay, Widemouth Bay, Trebarwith Strand…the list goes on. All of these places are minutes away from the farm and each have a variety of lovely cafes and pubs for those much needed refreshments.
Higher Culloden Farm is located just a few miles away from the Camel Trail, the old North Cornwall railway line. Take the short drive over to Bodmin or Wenford Bridge and pick up the trail from there. Why not follow it all the way through to Padstow and stop there for lunch. The route between Wadebridge and Padstow is also great if you have children with you as it’s very flat and an easy cycle.
There are also plenty of places to hire bikes in Wadebridge and Padstow. Booking in advance is advisable during school holidays.
For the road bike enthusiast, North Cornwall can offer some stunning routes along the winding country roads that follow the coast. Very popular in the warmer weather, there are some very testing routes available, and you can start right here at the farm.
Camping in Cornwall when you’re here to cycle can be a challenge. Staying here in a glamping pod with great facilities will allow you to rest in comfort after a long day cycling.
Whilst we don’t allow stag or hen parties, we do love to encourage groups of people to come and stay at Higher Culloden Farm. Maybe it’s a large family gathering, a club meet up getaway, or even an idyllic yoga retreat, we can accommodate you all.
If you’re interested in finding our more about group bookings then do get in touch with us. For specific group retreats (for example a yoga retreat), we are more than happy to discuss any special requirements you may have and can discuss catering options if needed.
